Bamboo – The Green Gold
Bamboo is a tree-like grass belonging to the Poaceae family. Bamboo is the fastest growing perennial, tall, wide-spread, and versatile species with the ability to produce culms every year. It is an easy substitute for timber owing to its eco-friendliness and large bio-mass production besides its usefulness in the maintenance of soil health and checking erosion.
It is one of the fastest-growing species in the world and takes a much shorter period from plantation to processing, which is only 3 to 5 years, compared to 30 to 50 years of most tree species in the tropics and subtropics.
